Myfanwy: Soloist, Teacher and Artistic Director

Myfanwy, BBSc(Psych.), who has her own Professional Bellydance career is the Founder, Troupe Director and full-time Manager of the Jamealah Bellydancers; Darwins’  busiest Bellydance School and Performance Troupe for the last  15 years.

A displined professional with over 20 years experience in her art, Myfanwy has studied with many leading International Master Teachers and the cream of top Australian Instructors in the art of bellydance; her technique has been descibed by many as ‘deliciously captivating and powerfully precise’.

Managing her time as a professional performer, teacher and Artistic Director of the dynamic and popular Middle Eastern dance troupe ‘The Jamealah Bellydancers’, Myfanwy has devoted her life to dance and is an inspiration to her students and co-dancers alike.

The Jamealah Bellydance School

From the humble beginnings of one class based in Palmerston in the Northern Territory of Australia, The Jamealah Bellydancers were founded in the year 2000 by Myfanwy, a professional bellydance soloist, newly returned to Darwin from studying with other dance groups and teachers in Australia.

This small ‘one day a week’ class has since flourished into a fully fledged bellydance school that has been running for over a decade. Boasting multiple instructors, the Jamealah Bellydance school runs throughout the year offering tuition from basic beginners through to advanced levels in a variety of formats and at various venues around Darwin.

As Jamealah bellydance students reach certain skill benchmarks, they are then offered opportunities to perform as a group at various community events, thus giving them performance experience.  Once enough experience in performing is attained, the Jamealah Director may invite some students to join the Jamealah Dancers Performance Troupe. Troupe members are often requested to perform at various private functions, restaraunts and corporate events in the Northern Territory.

Darwin Restaraunts unofficial home of Bellydance, Jazz and Blues. Nirvana was one of the first restaraunts in Darwin to feature a regular BELLYDANCE FLOORSHOW EVERY SATURDAY NIGHT.  Catch a performance during your meal whilst the exotic bars and lounge area is ideal to enjoy the live band with an after dinner drink. The dim lighting, fanatstic music  and mellow colours maintain the exotic mood created by the fantastic music and the fun and entertaining Bellydancers, while the eclectic collection of artwork adorning the walls ensures a steady stream of patrons can be seen meandering through the four separate dining or drinking areas.
